DAR’s Benjamin Prescott Chapter meeting set for May 4

May 1, 2017
Westfield Republican

The regular meeting of the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held at the McClurg Mansion in Westfield, New York, on April 6, 2017. The meeting was called to order and the opening ritual performed by Regent Brenda Johnson. Antoniette Sherman read the DAR President's Message and Lisa Sedlmayer read the DAR National Defense Article. Secretary Myra Johnston read the minutes from the previous meeting and Treasurer Bonnie Larkin reported balances and financial activity. Dawn Ubaney reported one new application is approved from Washington, DC and a second continues in the discovery stage. A member has requested a transfer to the Chapter and another is investigating membership.

Dawn Ubaney, registrar has a few green light bulb to be displayed at our homes to show support of our veterans for anyone wishing one.

The 126th Continental Congress in Washington, DC will be held June 28th to July 2nd, 2017. District 8 Spring Meeting is May 20, 2017 at the Roycroft Inn. We are preparing a basket of items from Chautauqua County for display and to raffle at the District 8 meeting. The New York State DAR meeting will be held in Tarrytown, NY in September.

Walter Sedlmayer gave a presentation on WW1. 100 years ago on this day this terrible war started. Many brought pictures and stories of relatives that fought in that war.

Several members expressed interest in traveling to New Hampshire in July or early August to visit the Benjamin Prescott Inn and the town that our Chapter namesake came from. Benjamin Prescott ran this Inn and was a spy in the Revolutionary War, captured by the British.

Remember: April 19, 1775, Lexington and Concord!

Meeting adjourned at 1:50 PM and hostesses Brenda Johnson, Bonnie Larkin and Barbara Pietro served frosted cut out cookies and soft drinks.

Next meeting is May 4 at 1:00 PM at the McClug Mansion in Westfield.

If you had an ancestor that fought for freedom in the Revolutionary War and would like to join us, please call Dawn Ubaney at 716-679-1218.
