Howard Louis Wendel

Dr. Howard Louis Wendell DC, 86, of Mayville, died on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Westfield Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 24, 1930 in Flint, MI, the son of the late Harry and Grace Crouter Wendell.

Louis was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean conflict, as well as a bus driver for 45 years for Mayville Central and Chautauqua Lake Central Schools.

He was a member of the Mayville VFW Post 8647, the Mayville United Methodist Church and former member of the Mayville Fire Department. He enjoyed wood working, reading books, music, automobiles, gardening, and time with his family.

Louis is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mae Judson Wendell, whom he married January 28, 1952 in Howell, MI, two sons; Howard Curtis (Amy) Wendell of Dewittville, Timothy (Darlene) Wendell of Hartfield, six grandchildren; James (Carolyn) Wendell of Vancouver, Canada, Jason (Lindsey) Wendell of California, Lisa (Jon) Sabella of Westfield, Katie (Ken) Braun of Panama, Rachelle Clark of Buffalo and Jared Clark of Mayville , nine great grandchildren; Tino, Wyatt, Charlotte, Reuben, Evie, JJ, Rhett, Justice, and Mason, and one brother; Lester Wendell of Indiana. A special thank you is extended to Max and Sharon McCaslin of Kittanning PA, brother and sister in-laws to Louis, for their years of close support.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lawrence Wendell.

The family will receive friends at the Freay Funeral Home, 139 S. Erie St, Mayville on Thursday, April 27 from 2-7 p.m. The funeral service will be on Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will be in Mayville Cemetery with military honors from the Mayville VFW Post 8647.
