Great things are happening at the Grape Discovery Center in Westfield, NY. Got the winter doldrums? Come visit and enjoy our exhibit room, tasting bar and retail shop. There is never an admission fee!
Located in Westfield at 8305 West Main Road (Route 20), the Grape Discovery Center promotes the wine and grape industry in this region. Recently the Center was awarded a Farm Winery License allowing the Center to sell New York State wines, spirits, craft beer and cider by the bottle for consumption off premises. Previously, only wine was available by the glass, and law required it be consumed at the Discovery Center either in the tasting room or on the beautiful outdoor patio overlooking the vineyards.
Visitors to the Center have increased steadily since its opening three years ago, and many visitors were disappointed they could not purchase a bottle of wine. "It's been quite a journey for the Center to be able to achieve this goal, but with the support of Senator Cathy Young and State Assemblyman Andrew Goodell, our license has arrived," says Christina McKane, manager. "Thanks to their help in obtaining this license, visitors will be able to make a purchase and enjoy these locally made beverages in their hotel rooms or homes," she added. The Center is in the process of building its inventory to have these new items available to visitors.

And that's not all that's happening at the Center! Several events are already on the calendar for the upcoming months. For example, three Thursday evening events are scheduled beginning Feb. 16 as Bob Green of the Mercyhurst Wine & Culinary Institute conducts a "Tasting Series for Wine, Spirits and Craft Beer." Still in the planning stage is a March 24 event entitled the "Grape Discovery Center Wine & Culinary Dinner Experience with Pairings from the Tasting Series."
A "Children's Happy Easter Party" is scheduled from noon to 3:00 p.m. on April 15th. The Easter egg hunt begins at 1:00 p.m. You won't want to miss the visit from the Easter Bunny. Come one, come all.
The Center will host "Bonsai for Beginners" on June 11 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Do you like classic cars? You won't want to miss the 2nd Annual Cruise-In by the Dunkirk Lakeshore Street Rod Association on June 17 and Aug. 26. Other clubs and cars are welcome, and dash plaques will be given to the first 100 cars, and awards are planned for the top ten cars. This fundraiser for the Grape Discovery Center will include live music, local food, local wines and craft beer, raffles and door prizes. Bring your lawn chairs, family and friends for a FUN afternoon. The event begins at noon and ends at 5:00 p.m.
"Wines in the Vines," a wine party on the patio from 2:00-4:00 p.m., will feature the local Americana/roots band, The BOGARTS. Come enjoy local food pairings and craft beer. Mark your calendar for this July 15 event.
"Pups on the Patio-A Dog Friendly Event." The Center is partnering up with local non-profit animal shelters.
The event is from noon to 4:00 p.m. on July 22. Licensed and current rabies vaccination required for all pups! Check our website for additional events that are already scheduled for August, September and October.
Hosting a small get-together? Book our tasting room and outdoor patio overlooking the vineyards for a small donation to the Center. The room will accommodate up to 45 people.
