Auxiliary recognizes volunteer fire department

February 8, 2017
Westfield Republican

On Tuesday, January 31, 2017, Stanley Hose Auxiliary hosted their first annual Stanley Hose Recognition dinner for Stanley Hose Company. Stanley Hose Auxiliary members prepared and served dinner to our volunteer fire department members.

After dinner, Auxiliary presented a large project that was recently completed, which began with this question: What exactly do our volunteers need during an emergency? With this question in mind, we began compiling a list of items that might be needed to keep emergency responders safe, dry, warm or cool. Auxiliary then began collecting items from our list and prepared "Grab and Go" bags, consisting of socks, gloves, hand warmers, towels, cooling towels, tissues, knitted caps, sanitizing hand wipes, and bottled water all stored in a canvas bag for use during emergency responses. Auxiliary was proud to present fifteen Grab and Go bags to the Stanley Hose Company.

New programs to better assist Stanley Hose Company were introduced and explained by Auxiliary. Auxiliary is selling Locator Signs, which are reflective house number signs placed at your driveway that will assist emergency responders in locating your address quicker during an emergency. Another program that Auxiliary introduced is the Yellow Dot Program.

This program is free of charge, and provides forms for all members of the household so that EMS has a quick reference of prescription medications upon their arrival. Program information, and much more, can be found at stanleyhoseladiesauxiliary@weebly.com.

Stanley Hose Auxiliary's Above & Beyond certificate, along with a $20 gas card, was presented to the top ten responders of 2016. As of December 20, 2016, top responders and the number of calls answered were: James Croscut, 117; Jay Irwin, 118; Bill Brosius, 121; Jared Oehlbeck, 131; Andrew Miller, 163; Jamie Spacht, 190; Mathew Oehlbeck, 202; Larry Fardink, 208; Douglas Crane, 242; and Robert Crane, 314.

And finally, a handmade string art design was presented to Stanley Hose Company reminding them that they truly are the heart of our community.

The last eight months, members of the Stanley Hose Auxiliary have been working diligently to fulfill our mission of raising community awareness and funds in order to support our fire department. Stanley Hose Auxiliary would like to thank the members of the Sherman community, as well as surrounding communities, for their continued support.
