RIPLEY - Pre-kindergartener Skye Gibbons was named the Student of the Month at Ripley Central School for May.
"Integrity means to stand up for your beliefs about right and wrong, resist social pressures to do wrong, and be your best self," nominator Wendy Graham said. "Skye Gibbons is a wonderful pre-k example of integrity."
Skye began the year in pre-kindergarten as a very shy little girl. She rarely spoke to adults, did not participate in classroom discussions and generally answered questions with an embarrassed, "I don't know," so she would not need to speak out.

Even if Skye knew the answers to questions, she preferred to stay quiet and unobtrusive, rather than speak up and tell others what she knew. Over the course of the school year, she has come out of her shell. Skye is now a bright, bubbly member of our class. She speaks loudly and clearly, sharing her insights with everyone and definitely being her best self.
As for standing up for her beliefs about right and wrong, Skye knows the right thing to do at all times and is a terrific rule-follower. She helps others and has been heard reminding others about the rules when they forget.
Not only does Skye try to do the right thing, she also asks if she is not sure what the right thing is. Often she will ask, "Have I been a good girl today, Mrs. Graham?" Graham has always been pleased to respond with a resounding, "Yes."
"Skye is a great example to others and has come so far this year," Graham said. "She has really bloomed, and is a true asset to have our class. Others can learn from her, and I am pleased to have her here. I heartily recommend her for Student of the Month."
