NORTH EAST, Pa. - Westfield Academy and Central School 2012 graduate Austin Alonge is off to a great start for the Mercyhurst North East Saints baseball team this spring.
Through 18 games, the freshman leads the team in several offensive categories. Alonge is ranked first on the team for batting average with a .407, hits with 24, on base percentage with a .485, runs scored with 18 and triples with 4. He is second on the team in slugging percentage with a .593) and RBI's with 12.
Alonge has started at third base in every game and has helped MNE to an 11-7 record thus far. He also pitched three innings in relief in a Friday, March 1 game in Myrtle Beach, S.C., striking out two, allowing one hit and giving up one earned win to help the Saints defeat Olney Central College 9-6.
The Mercyhurst North East Saints are currently ranked 20th in the nation for NJCAA Division II schools.
