SHERMAN - Those who haven't noticed the list of Sherman Central School's students on the honor and merit roles in the papers, check them out.
The community can be proud of the many youths who are working hard according to their ability in their scholastic efforts. Although there are always some students who don't make those lists, remember not all youth have the same abilities. Thus if one's child finds their effort isn't enough, there is additional help available through parents and additional help at school. If they work up to their potential, they can be a successful and profitable asset as they face adulthood. Perhaps all the students people meet from day to day can be encouraged with a smile and a good word. It will not only give them support, it can also be a blessing to the person being encouraging.
SHERMAN - Playoffs for area basketball teams begin next week.
Attending those games are another way to encourage local players. Moreover, fans can greatly enjoy following local games. Try it. It might just be an enjoyable time, even if the home team looses. It's a good way for youth to realize teams do not always win the game. That's just life.
