Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

WESTFIELD - Westfield Academy and Central School's Academic All-Stars were recently honored at a luncheon at Quagliana's Bark Grill.

The Academic All-Stars must achieve high honor roll status - a grade point average 94.50 to 100 percent - in three of the four previous marking periods. This year's all stars are: sophomore Christopher Cockram; sophomore Carson Hauser; sophomore Abigail Jopek; sophomore Molly Laurie; sophomore Kaitlin Meegan; sophomore Alexander Michels; sophomore Abigail Wood; sophomore Brenna Wright; junior Emma Fermier; junior Laura Kitchen; senior Kayla Bentham; senior Chloe Forsell; senior Kristin Grohol; senior Rebekah Herr; senior Nina Manzella; senior Gregory Momberger; and senior Daniel Tofil.

While students enjoyed delicious and satisfying lunches, high school science teacher, coach and Environmental Club Advisor Matthew Eggleston spoke to the students about setting goals, hard work and dedication. Eggleston told the senior students to not back off of getting good grades and achievements just because they were near the end of their high school careers.

"Keep striving and setting goals even now because it will help you in the future," Eggleston said.

He also acknowledged the students high academic achievement along with the many various extra-curricular, employment, sports, music and family activities they are involved in. Eggleston also shared some personal high school academic experiences, which the students not only enjoyed hearing about, but also showed them that their goals and dreams can be attained.

Students in grades nine through 12 were honored at an Academic Awards Assembly in September 2012. Those students who achieved merit roll, honor roll, high honor roll and academic all-star status were individually recognized both in a video and biographies of each individual student were read during the assembly. Parents of the Academic Award winners were invited to the cafeteria for a continental breakfast reception prepared by WACS Cafeteria Manager Patty Benton.
