Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

WESTFIELD - Members of the Westfield Academy and Central School's Parent Connection Friends of Education Fund subcommittee accepted a $500 donation from the WACS class of 1982.

This class used the proceeds from their 30th class reunion alumni dance to make this donation as well as support the NorthLake Family Recreation Center.

The Friends of Education fund is a partnership of Parent Connection and the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation with a mission to invest in and support children's overall educational experience. The fund exists for the purpose of improving the educational experiences of students by investing in special programs, initiatives, capital projects and other items needed within the school district. The money raised will be directed toward areas that cannot be adequately supported without private funding.

The Westfield Academy and Central School’s Parent Connection Friends of Education Fund recently received a donation from the WACS Class of 1982. Members of the Class of 1982 making up the back row include: Sharon (Cogliano) DeTamble and son Joseph; Nancy Nixon-Ensign; Cameron Monroe; Frank Quagliana; Jodi (Raynor) and Dave Wilson. Members of the FOEF holding the check are Holli Button, left, and Brenda (Cogliano) Backus, right. WACS students include: Dylan Scriven; Ryan Jafarjian; Hannah Schultz; Nathan Culbreth; and Katelyn Meegan.

The Class of 1982 is the first graduating class from Westfield to make such a generous donation. With this donation, it has issued a challenge to the other graduates of Westfield - get the class together, look at the class' alumni fund, do a fundraiser, sponsor an event and match this donation. WACS needs the help.

The FOEF is also looking for ideas and support for events promoting healthy competition among the alumni and show school spirit. The FOEF subcommittee is in the process of creating a database of graduates. Tax-deductible donations and class alumni information for the database may be sent to P.O. Box 102, Westfield, N.Y., 14787. The Friend of Education Fund is also available on Facebook.
