Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department 11/22/12

HARMONY - Allen "Randy" Smith, 68, of Hinchberger Rd., Butler, Pa., was involved in a hunting accident on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

According to the sheriff's office, a concerned friend of Smith's called CCSO around 3:15 p.m., to report Smith had gone out hunting and had not been seen since. Sheriff's deputies along with their K9 unit located Smith in a nearby wooded area. It appears something broke on Smith's tree stand and he fell approximately 20 feet from the tree. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner. State Police K9 unit, Department of Environmental Conservation, Forrest Ranger, Fire Coordinator and the Panama Fire Department assisted in recovering Smith's body.

CHAUTAUQUA - Emilee Carlson, 19, of Mayville was charged with fourth-degree mischief on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

According to the sheriff's office, Carlson allegedly damaged a car parked at a residence on Elmwood Rd., in the Town of Chautauqua. Carlson was issued an appearance ticket to be in Chautauqua Town Court on a later date.

BROCTON - Alex N. Tylwalk, 19, of E. Main St., Brocton was charged with two counts of petit larceny and two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property on Thursday, Nov. 15.

According to the sheriff's office, it had been investigating numerous larcenies from vehicles in the Brocton are and, as a result, Tylwalk has been arrested and issued appearance tickets around 2 p.m., for two separate incidents occurring in the Village of Brocton. Tylwalk was charged and is to appear in Brocton Village Court on a later date. The investigation is continuing.

PORTLAND - John D. Sisson, 42, of E. Main St., Westfield was charged with following too closely on Saturday, Nov. 17.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a two car motor vehicle accident in the Town of Portland around 1:45 p.m. Through an investigation, it was found the driver of the second vehicle, Sisson, was allegedly following too closely and rear ended the first vehicle as it was attempting to turn into its driveway on Route 20. A passenger in the first vehicle and both occupants of the second vehicle were transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital with injuries. Sisson was issued a traffic citation, and his matter will be handled in Portland Town Court on a later date.

CHAUTAUQUA - Dustin D. Taves, 24, of North Harmony was remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail on a warrant arrest on Sunday, Nov. 18.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies stopped a vehicle on Hewes Rd., in the Town of Chautauqua for speeding around 4 a.m. Taves was allegedly a passenger in the vehicle, and a record check showed Taves had a warrant from Portland Town Court for failing to appear on the charge of third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation. Taves was placed in custody and arraigned in Portland Town Court. Taves was remanded to jail.
