NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police say a man who hit an officer with a cane and then was shot by her partner is now under arrest.

The New York Police Department said Sunday that Dairon Bledsoe has been arrested on charges including assaulting a police officer.

The address the 27-year-old Bledsoe gave is a Brooklyn homeless shelter. No workers who knew him were immediately available Sunday.

Bledsoe remained hospitalized. It's not immediately clear whether he has a lawyer.

Police say two officers saw Bledsoe whacking a patrol car with the cane in Brooklyn Saturday.

Police say an officer confronted him with her baton, and he hit her in the face with the cane.

Police say he moved to hit her again, and her partner shot Bledsoe once in the torso.
