Golf chariot awaits
Dave Lewis of Sinclairville, N.Y., tees off at Cable Hollow Golf Course during a round on Monday with Dave Nichols and Dick Akin. The group had two carts for the round. According to Manager Dave Bortz, the carts use about a half gallon of fuel for a round.
Golf isn’t just good for golfers. It’s good for the whole county. According to Diane Shawley, executive director of the Warren County Visitors Bureau, golf is an important part of the tourism industry in the county. “People staying at the Holiday Inn, playing golf and eating at local restaurants,” Blueberry Hill Golf Club Manager Jim Roth said. “It’s good for the local economy.” Manager Dave Bortz of Cable Hollow Golf Course said as much as half his weekend business is made up of non-local golfers. He cited the weekend of June 21. “I had 230 rounds go through Cable Hollow,” Bortz said. “Of that, there were about 115 from outside the area.” At a recent meeting of the county’s Intergovernmental Council, Shawley said, “Golf is sustaining this county.” In order to foster more golf-based tourism, the county is participating in the Pennsylvania Wilds Golf Initiative. “Golf is more and more becoming a big economic contributor,” said Elyse Roberts, special projects coordinator
